Pichu Pichu is a volcano located east of the city of Arequipa. It is very eroded and consists of seven peaks, of which the Coronado is the main summit and the highest. It preserves a ceremonial platform, in which the Incas made offerings on its summits where in 1964 the first mummy of Altura del Peru was found.
The Pichu Pichu is an extinct volcano, located in the Cordillera Volcanica del Sur del Peru, with a height of 5,542 meters above sea level. The origin of this volcano is explained by several legends. One of them tells that a warrior raped the daughter of the Inca, whom he left pregnant and did not want to accept responsibility, so he was persecuted. Desperate, he wanted to flee by the road that leads to the Balneario de Jesus, but tired, he fell asleep at nightfall on the slopes of a hill. When dawn broke, he was castrated and punished for his rebellion by the sun, which condemned him to eternal sleep. That is why this volcano, seen from afar, looks like a sleeping man who has no sexual apparatus.
