With the Ica Aventura Dunes Tour, you will get to know and enjoy an exciting day in the dunes of the Ica desert. An area of the Peruvian coast that is located on a strip of the Pacific coastal desert plain that borders the shore of the Grau Sea and the Peruvian Andes. This will be the setting to practice the exciting sport of Sandboarding and Buggies.

SANDBOARDING IN ICA, allows you to slide on a board on the appropriate dune slopes. Depending on your ability and the waxing of the base of the board, you can reach extreme speeds in the descent, without risk of physical damage, except, probably wallowing in the sand, it’s a lot of fun. All the slides are monitored and supervised by professional instructors, who give previous training to the participants; no experience is necessary.

Don’t forget that for sliding, it is necessary to apply wax under the board, so it won’t go too fast and it will be easier for you to do Sandboarding in Ica. If you are going to slide standing up, adjust the straps of the board well, make sure that your ankles and feet are well supported by the straps. If you are lying down, keep your arms and elbows on the board. Don’t pull them out for nothing. If you want to brake, the correct way is to stick your feet out the back and dig them into the sand. But, if the board is going fast, it is not advisable to brake.

Keep an eye on the board, if it falls it will go so fast that you won’t be able to stop it even if you run after it. Avoid the heat: Sandboarding in Ica at the times we suggest because so much sun will make you spend too much energy.  Keep in mind that you should have at least 1 or 2 bottles of water to avoid dehydration. Be careful with your phone, tablet, camera or any gadget you carry. Not only can they be damaged, but they can be lost under the sand, it is better to carry a small backpack to keep them safe.

THE HUACACHINA LAGOON, the oasis of Huacachina, a resort in the middle of the desert that today has become one of the icons of Ica, includes several lagoons being the most representative the Huacachina, a word that comes from the Quechua word “huaccac china” which means “woman’s cry” where you can take yacht rides on the lake.

This natural oasis surrounded by vegetation cover and desert dunes, has plants such as huarango, toñuz and hawthorn, which serve as habitat for the existing fauna and are closely related to birds such as the American owl, the chaucato and other species of birds and reptiles such as the lizard of the gramadales which is an important biological controller. It is also the habitat of two reptile species of the Peruvian coastal desert: the sand lizard, a national endemic species, and the lizard of the hills.

MAIN POINTS OF VISIT

Day 1: Ica – Huacachina Lagoon – Ica Dunes.

• Start of the tour in Ica: 09.00 or 16.00 hrs Pick up from your hotel in Ica or Huacachina.
• Our tour begins on the shores of the Huacachina Lagoon, from this point we will drive our tubular sand buggies to the west, in the direction of the desert, where we will find a great variety of dunes.
• Adventure Tour: Here we will ride with our buggies or sand cars through a great part of the desert going up and down the dunes. The desert of Ica in Huacachina offers one of the most beautiful desert landscapes in South America, with whimsical sand formations formed by the wind and with a beautiful view of our Peruvian Andes in the eastern part. Our driver will make different stops so that you can appreciate the scenery, as well as take pictures.
• Adventure Tour: Then we will drive our vehicle to the top of a big dune where the instructor guide will show you how to practice the sport of Sandboarding. Once at the top you will be able to enjoy this sport and also take more pictures. Finally we will return to Huacachina Lagoon.
• Transfer to the hotel.
