With the “Lamas San Martin Tour”, you can enjoy nature while discovering the wildlife of the 4 most visited destinations of Tarapoto and the entire jungle in San Martin.  Tarapoto, a city in central-eastern Peru on the edge of the Amazon rainforest, is the most populated city in the department of San Martin and the average annual maximum temperature is 29 °C.

On this tour you will discover the folkloric capital of San Martin, know part of the interesting history of San Martin and the process of Spanish colonization knowing the history of the city. Visit and pass through the interior of the famous medieval style castle of Lamas and finally meet the native community of the city, the Wayku and their centuries-old customs and traditions.

  • Day 01: Lamas

DETAILED ITINERARY

Lamas (03.00 – 06.30 pm)

  • 03.00 pm We will pick you up at your hotel to go to the folkloric capital of San Martin, Lamas. In the city, we will visit its main square where we will learn part of its history.
  • Later, we will go to the indigenous museum where we will learn about the customs and traditions of the Waykus, the native community of the city. If you do not wish to enter the museum, alternatively you can wait at the famous Violeta Creamery where you will taste their tasty ice cream specialties with natural fruits.
  • At the end of the tour, we will visit the popular Lamas Castle, take a tour of its interior and discover some details that explain the reason for this unique construction. Finally, we will visit the Wayku neighborhood and its indigenous community. There we will be able to learn about their ancestral culture and buy some of their traditional handicrafts at the market in the neighborhood square.
  • Then at 6.30 pm we will return to Tarapoto and drop you off at your hotel.
