With the Tambopata Cultural Recommended Tour, you can enjoy nature while discovering the wildlife of the lowland rainforest on your expedition to Tambopata. Dare to leave in a boat from the community of El Infierno to our lodge in front of the monkey island, this island besides being home to various types of monkeys, is also the habitat of turtles and herons. This Tambopata Tours has as an option to do the Canopy walkway of 90 meters high appreciate a spectacular view of the wildlife, at night we go in search of scorpions, tarantulas and caimans of the species of Alligators present in South America; they paddle through the rivers or lakes in canoes with flashlights to try to find them. Four of the six species of caiman are present in the Tambopata area.

If you are doing the Tambopata Tours you definitely have to make an excursion to Lake Sandoval, this lake is considered the most beautiful ecotourism level, its crescent shape and its waters are usually at 26°C. Not only stands out for its beauty, but also for the diversity of fish present in its waters due to the rich flora that exists, so you can find paiches of up to 200 kg. Although it is a protected area, its activities are regulated: there is an observation tower, open to visitors of the Reserve after registration at the Interpretation Center located on the access road to the lake. A boat ride on the lake or being stationed on the shores can allow you to see the arrival in the afternoon of flocks of macaws that come to spend the night in the place.

This tourist attraction in Tambopata is highly recommended for adventurous travelers and also for those who enjoy bird watching, since thanks to the vegetation in its mangroves and surroundings, is the habitat of a population of more than a thousand species of birds, including migratory and resident as the Hoatzin, Cormorant and abundant piranhas and taricayas and the elusive Giant Otter. Complete your expedition by going deep into the jungle to look for mammal nests and clay licks as well as auroras and macaws.

The Tambopata 3Day Tour is becoming one of the main tourist destinations in Peru, however, there is one tour in Peru that every traveler dreams to get to at least once in his life and that is the Machu Picchu tour, so we recommend you after your Tambopata tour to reserve a space for a Machu Picchu tour with us.

Frequently Asked Questions about Tambopata Cultural

Monkey Island is home to various types of monkeys, turtles, and herons. It is also possible to spot birds, mammals, and rodents in this area.

The Canopy Walkway is an experience of walking on elevated walkways at a height of 90 meters to obtain spectacular views of wildlife. It is done in groups and under the supervision of guides.

Yes, caimans can be found in the Tambopata area, and there is an opportunity to search for them on a night walk in search of young caimans and, if lucky, adult caimans.

The night walk in the jungle allows you to observe frogs, insects, and other unique and fascinating nocturnal animals under the guidance of an expert.

The best time to visit Tambopata is during the dry season, from May to October, as temperatures range between 10°C and 35°C. During this period, the weather is more stable, wildlife sightings are better, there is access to previously flooded areas, and less concern about mosquito-transmitted diseases. However, be prepared for occasional rains and book in advance due to higher visitor numbers.

For your visit to Tambopata, it is essential to bring:

  • Light long-sleeved clothing, pants, swimwear, and cool garments due to the humid climate.
  • Hat
  • Sunscreen
  • Reusable water bottle
  • Comfortable footwear
  • Insect repellent
  • Binoculars
  • Camera
  • Flashlight.
  • Carry cash
  • Identification and copies
  • First-aid kit
  • Bird guide

Keep everything protected in waterproof bags and a small backpack. The key is light and functional packing.

The Tambopata national reserves face a serious threat due to the presence of illegal miners causing deforestation for mineral and gemstone extraction, resulting in irreparable consequences for biodiversity and the natural beauty of these protected areas.

For visiting Tambopata and other areas of the Peruvian Amazon, certain vaccinations are recommended, although they are not mandatory. These recommendations include:

  • Hepatitis A: Recommended for all travelers to Peru due to potential exposure through food or water.
  • Hepatitis B: Recommended for all travelers, especially those who may be exposed to blood or bodily fluids, such as in medical situations, tattoos, or sexual contact with the local population.
  • Typhoid: Advised vaccination for travelers to the Peruvian Amazon, especially in rural areas where there is a risk of exposure through food or water.
  • Yellow fever: Highly recommended for travel to the Amazon and the southern Amazon basin. It should be administered at least 10 days before arrival and at 10-year intervals if you plan to stay.
  • Rabies: Recommended only for travelers at higher risk of exposure, such as those living in high-risk bat exposure areas, working with bats, stray dogs, and cats, or wildlife professionals.

It is essential to consult a doctor 4 to 6 weeks before your trip for specific recommendations based on your health history and travel destinations.

We recommend avoiding drinking water directly from the river, lake, or taps. You can find drinking water at dispensers and pitchers distributed throughout the lodge, as well as a variety of other beverages available. All water supply provided by the lodge goes through an ozone-based purification process. Additionally, we ask that you turn off the water flow while soaping and rinsing to reduce unnecessary water usage.
