With the “Tambopata Native Community Tour”, you can enjoy nature while discovering the wildlife of the lowland jungle. An adventure trip in the Peruvian jungle that begins departing in a boat from the community of El Infierno to our lodge in front of the island of monkeys, this island is also home to various types of monkeys, turtles and herons. This Tambopata Tours has as an option to do the Canopy walkway of 90 meters high where you can appreciate a spectacular view of the wildlife, at night we go in search of scorpions, tarantulas and alligators of the species of Alligators present in South America; they paddle through the rivers or lakes in canoes with flashlights to try to find them. Four of the six species of caiman are present in the Tambopata area.
The Ese ejas, known as huarayos by the oldest population of Puerto Maldonado, are a people of hunters, fishermen and horticulturists who have been present in Madre de Dios since time immemorial. The Ese ejas settled in the plains near the Baawaja or Tambopata rivers. The Ese ejas were contacted at the beginning of the last century by the Dominican fathers, who tried to free them from the exploitation to which they were subjected by the rubber tappers who entered the department following in the footsteps of the infamous Fermín Fitzcarrald. According to the elders of the community of Infierno, that hard time, of great transformations in their way of life, was a very hard blow for the Ese eja people, whose inhabitants were forced to abandon the territory they had inherited from their elders. Despite the change in the ethnic composition of the community, the Ese eja families who maintain this status continue to struggle to preserve their customs and the language spoken by their elders.
If you take the Tambopata 4D/3N tours, you are supporting this community because the income they receive from their lodges is invested mainly in education and health. The rest is used to care for the elderly, build works of communal benefit and the implementation of new productive projects. The work of cultural rescue and protection of their traditional knowledge is done with their elders, with the people of Ese Ejas who have been able to maintain the tradition. That is why most of the naturalist guides and birdwatchers in Tambopata are descendants of Ese ejas families.
This tourist attraction in Tambopata is highly recommended for adventurous travelers and also for those who enjoy bird watching, since thanks to the vegetation in its mangroves and surroundings, it is the habitat of a population of over a thousand species of birds, including migratory and resident birds such as the Hoatzin, Cormorant and abundant piranhas and taricayas and the elusive Giant Otter. Complete your expedition by going deep into the jungle to look for mammal nests and clay licks as well as auroras and macaws.
The 4 Day Tambopata trip is becoming one of the main tourist destinations in Peru, however, there is one tour in Peru that every traveler dreams of getting to at least once in their lifetime and that is the Machu Picchu tour, so we recommend after your Tambopata tour that you reserve a space for a Machu Picchu tour with us.

On Monkey Island, you can observe species such as the spider monkey, capuchin monkey, squirrel monkey, among others. At least 3 to 4 species of monkeys can be spotted, in addition to birds, mammals, and rodents.
During the night tour in Tambopata, we take walks in search of caimans along the riverbanks. We use a boat with spotlights to spot young caimans and, if we’re lucky, adult caimans. Tambopata is home to 4 out of the 6 caiman species found in South America.
In the Tambopata area, you can find over a thousand bird species, both migratory and resident. Notable species include the Hoatzin, Cormorant, piranhas, taricayas, and the River Wolf, among others.
The main points of interest include the Canopy Walkway, Zipline, Monkey Island, Cochas and Madre de Dios River beaches for caiman sightings, Lake Sandoval, Native Ese’ejas Family, Gamitana Creek for Sport Fishing, Collpa Cachuela, and Interpretative Trails.
During the cultural visit to the Ese’ejas native community, visitors have the opportunity to learn about the rich culture of this people. They can get acquainted with their customs, language, attire, dances, and traditional way of life. Additionally, they can visit a native farm and the artisan workshop, where authentic products are crafted.
The Canopy Walkway is an exciting 90-meter-high suspended bridge that leads to a platform in the canopy of a 300-year-old Lupuna tree, 45 meters above the ground. This unique experience in Tambopata allows you to observe wildlife from high above the jungle, including birds and other species that are not easily seen from the forest floor.
A parrot clay lick is a clay wall where multiple species of parrots gather every morning to consume minerals present in the clay. This natural phenomenon creates a spectacle of sounds and colors that captivates bird enthusiasts and nature lovers. It’s a unique opportunity to observe and photograph these beautiful parrots in their natural habitat.
