With the “Classic Tarapoto Tour”, you can enjoy nature while discovering the wildlife of the 4 most visited destinations in Tarapoto and the entire jungle in San Martin.  It is designed for the whole family because all destinations are easily accessible and it is possible to enjoy their jungle qualities without any preparation. In them you will be able to know part of the Amazon jungle of the region with full comfort and without difficulties.

Tarapoto, a city in central-eastern Peru on the edge of the Amazon rainforest, is the most populated city in the department of San Martin and the average annual maximum temperature is 29 °C. This beautiful province has beautiful places to visit such as La Laguna Sauce or Laguna Azul Tour, a freshwater lake located 52 km from Tarapoto and 700 m above sea level, where you can practice sport fishing, swimming and other water sports.

Moyobamba, known as the “City of Orchids” because there are more than 3,500 species of orchids, was the first city founded by Spaniards in the Peruvian jungle. Moyobamba was a metropolis from where missionaries, soldiers and traders left to found towns in the Peruvian Amazon, imposing the Hispanic civilization with little respect to the natives and destructive usufruct of the aboriginal goods.

SHORT ITINERARY

• Day 01: Visit to the city of Lamas
• Day 02: Relax at the Blue Lagoon
• Day 03: Alto Mayo Valley
• Day 04: Ahuashiyacu Waterfall

Day 1: Lamas City (310 and 814 masl)

• Pick up from the airport at the agreed time and transfer to the hotel.
• 03.00 pm We will pick you up at your hotel to go to the city of Lamas, located 20 km away from Tarapoto. It has a population of 15 156 inhabitants. There, we will visit:
• Lamas is a wonderful Eden known as the City of Three Floors. This name was given by the Italian naturalist Antonio Raimondi, who discovered that the city is made up of three different plateaus where all the daily activities of its inhabitants take place. Therefore, we will visit the main square and the historic center.
• We will visit the medieval style castle,
• We will make a tour of the Wayku neighborhood and visit the native community that lives there. This Quechua community is considered the only Quechua-speaking ethnic group in our jungle and preserves its millenary ancestral customs and clothing. A characteristic of this town is its houses with reddish facades, a characteristic color of the area, and roofs covered with palm leaves. The handicraft stores and the main square, which houses sculptures of prints typical of this community, are other attractions that we should appreciate.
• 06.30 pm At the end of the tour we will return to Tarapoto.

Day 2: Blue Lagoon or Sauce Lagoon (700 m asl)

• 8.30 am Pick up at the hotel and departure to Sauce or Laguna Azul. The journey to the lagoon takes us along the road Fernando Belaunde Terry to the south, we cross the Huallaga River (captive raft).
• We will make a stop at the Mirador la punta del Gallinazo for taking pictures.
• We will arrive at the town of Sauce where we can enjoy the grandiose and majestic landscapes of the jungle. And then to the Blue Lagoon, a freshwater lake located 52 km from Tarapoto, in this lagoon we will take a boat ride for about 1 hour.
• We will have a bath and relax in the Caño Tourist recreation on the shores of the lagoon.
• Also, you can practice water sports such as sport fishing, swimming, water skiing, boat rides and others (optional, not included). You can practice sport fishing, swimming and other water sports.
• Lunch (tourist menu).
• 05.30 pm Return to Tarapoto.

Day 3: Alto Mayo valley (860 m.a.s.l.)

• 07.30 am Pick up at the hotel and departure to Moyobamba. It is the first city founded by Spaniards in the Peruvian jungle, its urban population and surroundings is 80,324 inhabitants. Moyobamba was a metropolis from where missionaries, soldiers, merchants left to found populations in the Peruvian Amazon, imposing the Hispanic civilization with little respect to the natives and destructive usufruct of the aboriginal goods.
• Arrival at the source of Tioyacu.  This tourist recreation is located very close to Rioja, just 15 minutes from this city, in the town of Segunda Jerusalén. Its main attraction is the source of this river of crystalline waters, you can see how the water springs from the rocks, forming several waterfalls and a natural pool where you can take a relaxing bath. The cold water of this river is ideal to revitalize the body and activate blood circulation. Bath and relax.
• Visit to the Chuchu Center, a tourist recreation center specialized in regional drinks that will allow us to whet our appetite before going to have lunch where we will have a tasting of regional drinks.
• Lunch (tourist menu).
• We will visit the Orchidarium of Moyobamba. Moyobamba is recognized as the City of Orchids, it is presumed to have around 3,500 species, it is one of its major tourist attractions; orchid collectors can choose and take one.
• Afterwards, we can enjoy a relaxing bath in the thermal baths of San Mateo. It is a tourist center that is located 5 km from the city, the hot pools have different temperatures, the highest reaches up to 42º C. There are also three swimming pools, a restaurant, children’s games, a soccer field and green areas.
• 07.30 pm Return to Tarapoto.

Day 4: Ahuashiyacu Waterfall (465 m.a.s.l.)

• 10.00 am Pick up at your hotel and departure to Ahuashiyacu Waterfall. This waterfall is the most famous and visited of the entire region because it is located 25 min. from the city. It is located in the mountainous system that surrounds Tarapoto, the stairway mountain range, and its waters are quite cold.
• The natural reserve that houses it has abundant specimens of Amazonian flora and has a road enabled to reach the waterfall in 15 min. In addition, the waterfall also has a small natural pool and it is possible to bathe and even jump from an adjacent rock.
• We will make a stop at the Alto Ahuashiyacu natural viewpoint to take pictures.
• Bath and relax at the waterfall.
• 01.00 pm Return to Tarapoto.
