DESCRIPTION

Description Visit Candelaria Puno 2023

With the tour “Visit Candelaria Puno 2023”, you can visit in the city of Puno, the highest lake in the world, Lake Titicaca: 2 islands will call our attention. We will enjoy the best Carnival of native dances in the Candelaria Festival.

UROS, are a group of artificial islets built with totora, an aquatic plant that grows wild on the shores of Lake Titicaca. Its inhabitants, the Uros, are a population of very ancient origin that currently resides in Peru, near the bay of Puno.

These floating islands can be raised and lowered following the level of the lake, and their inhabitants can also lift their anchors and move them as if they were barges. Each island houses from three to ten families and the size of the land is proportional to the families to be accommodated. Located at a distance of 7 km from the city of Puno, at an altitude of 3,812 meters above sea level.

TAQUILE belongs to the district of Amantani, Puno, Peru and is located 45 km from the regional capital. It has a population of approximately 2,200 inhabitants. The main village is located at 3,950 meters above sea level and the highest point of the island reaches 4,050 meters above sea level. The island belongs to the linguistic domain of the Quechua language and its inhabitants are called taquileño/a.

It was part of the Inca Empire, to this day you can see some archaeological remains. This island was one of the last Peruvian towns that capitulated to the Spanish in the XVI century. Later it was taken in the name of Emperor Charles V and finally passed to the court of Pedro Gonzales de Taquila, from whose surname its name is derived today.

The Spaniards prohibited the traditional Inca dress, so the islanders had to adopt the peasant dress that they still wear today. It is narrow and long, and was used as a prison during the Spanish Colony. In 1970 it became the property of the Taquile people, who have inhabited the island ever since.

THE FESTIVITY OF THE VIRGIN OF CANDELARIA OF PUNO, is a Peruvian cultural manifestation. It represents the largest cultural, musical, musical, dance and religious manifestation of Peru by the amount of symbols and artistic and cultural manifestations of the Quechua, Aymara and mestizo cultures, is held in February each year.

It was declared Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity by Unesco in 2014. This festivity presents the following moments: rehearsals, novenas, albas de fiesta, entrance of candles, entrance of k’apos, vespers, February 2, octave, veneration, cacharpari.

The core of the festival is the religious, festive and cultural expression as dance, music and arts and various customs and expressions summons the presence of more than 180 groups, including “native dances” that come from the communities and parts of Puno and dance groups organized in different neighborhoods of the city of Puno, Most of them are called “dances with costumes of lights”, where 100 thousand dancers and 10 thousand musicians participate directly, adding their indirect participation about 35 thousand more people among managers, alferados (preste), embroiderers, artisans in the making of masks, boots and shoes, bells and other elements.
