1 PLAN YOUR TRIP

The Maras & Moray ATV Tour is an unforgettable adventure and cultural excursion in the Sacred Valley of the Incas. This experience combines the exciting driving of all-terrain ATV vehicles with visits to two of the most iconic destinations in the Andean territory.

Throughout the journey, you will drive along beautiful rural trails surrounded by mountain landscapes until reaching the Inca agricultural laboratory of Moray, later transferring toward the impressive mineral complex of the Maras Salt Mines.

This Half Day tour is offered in two daily shifts to adapt to your itinerary:

  • Morning Shift: Begins at 07:00 am and concludes at 01:00 pm.
  • Afternoon Shift: Begins at 01:00 pm and concludes at 07:00 pm.

Either of the two shifts has an approximate total duration of 6 hours, ending in the historic center of the city of Cusco.

The best time to take the ATV tour comprises the months of the dry season, between April and October. During these months, the dirt roads are dry and stable, providing smooth driving with sunny days and stunning views of the mountain range.

If you make the trip during the rainy season (November to March), the route offers an extra dose of adrenaline with muddy sections, as well as completely green, vibrant agricultural landscapes.

During this vibrant tourist journey, you will explore the following highlights:

  • Cruzpata: Base community for training and departure point of the ATV route.
  • Moray Archaeological Center: Circular terraces of Inca agricultural experimentation.
  • Maras Salt Mines: A unique landscape with over 3,000 active artisanal salt pans.
  • Views of the Vilcanota Mountain Range: Privileged panoramic views of the snow-capped peaks of Verónica and Chicón.

Yes, it is completely worth it if you are looking to add dynamism, freedom, and adrenaline to your trip. Unlike conventional bus excursions, the ATV allows you to freely explore rural pathways and feel direct contact with the nature of the Sacred Valley.

It is the ideal combination for travelers wishing to learn about Inca history while enjoying a fun four-wheel adventure through the Peruvian Andes.

2 HIKING AND DIFFICULTY

The difficulty level of the excursion is formally rated as easy. The ATV route runs along flat rural dirt trails without dangerous technical terrain or complex maneuvers.

Likewise, the guided walks conducted inside Moray and at the viewpoints of the Salt Mines are brief and light, guaranteeing an accessible day for all types of adventurers.

No, prior experience in driving ATVs is not required. Before hitting the route, our specialized guide will provide a detailed safety briefing and lead a practice session in the community of Cruzpata.

There, you will learn how to handle the basic controls until you feel completely safe and comfortable to begin the adventure journey.

No. For strict reasons of road safety, tourism management, and preservation of local heritage, ATVs are driven only to the Moray complex and its surroundings.

Subsequently, the transfer from Moray toward the viewpoint of the Maras Salt Mines is conducted aboard our private tourist transport, guaranteeing a comfortable and protected visit.

The highest elevation point of the route stands at 3,762 meters (12,342 feet) above sea level. The community of Cruzpata and the terraces of Moray are located around 3,500 m (11,482 ft) above sea level.

Since it is a guided activity where most of the journey is spent seated driving the vehicle, physical effort is reduced, and altitude usually does not cause inconvenience.

Yes, children and teenagers can participate in the tour as long as they travel as passengers or companions on a double ATV piloted by a responsible adult or guardian.

To independently drive an individual ATV, you must be of legal age or have proper parental authorization and evaluation by the guide on the practice track.

3 BEFORE YOU TRAVEL

It is recommended to dress in comfortable clothing that you don’t mind getting dirty with dust or mud, using a layered clothing system. Bring durable pants (jeans or trekking pants) and a windbreaker jacket.

Dust often kicks up on the rural route, so a bandana or scarf to cover your mouth and nose will be extremely useful while driving.

It is mandatory to wear closed sports sneakers or closed hiking boots. Under no circumstances is driving or engaging in the activity permitted while wearing open sandals, flip-flops, or high-heeled shoes.

Wearing closed footwear will grant you optimal grip on the ATV footrests and protect your ankles from small stones along the path.

Our company provides all the mandatory regulatory equipment necessary for your safety, which includes an approved protective helmet and special driving gloves.

Additionally, the assigned ATV is a powerful Honda TRX 250, fully equipped, mechanically inspected, and supplied with the necessary fuel for the entire itinerary.

In your small daypack, you should carry sunscreen, sunglasses (which will also protect you from dust while driving), a bottle of mineral water, personal ID documents, and your camera or cellphone.

Remember to also bring cash in Peruvian Soles to pay the corresponding entry fees to the tourist attractions at the ticket offices.

It is not mandatory to buy them in advance. The Cusco Tourist Ticket (BTC) to enter Moray and the community entrance ticket for the Maras Salt Mines are purchased directly on the day of the tour at the official ticket offices.

To guarantee private transport and ATV availability, you only need to book your spots with the agency a couple of days in advance.

4 HEALTH AND SAFETY

Safety is our priority. The journey mandatorily begins with an instructional briefing and a practice period. The entire route is completed in a single column led by an experienced professional guide who sets the appropriate speed.

Additionally, a support or technician vehicle monitors the group to immediately resolve any mechanical issue or provide assistance if any participant requires it.

Yes, our staff carries a first-aid kit equipped at all times to handle minor contingencies on the route or scrapes.

Our adventure guides are trained in tourist emergency care, and the tour is always conducted within safe speed margins out of respect for local communities.

The risk is low as the activity does not demand extenuating walks or severe cardiovascular effort. However, being over 3,500 m (11,482 ft) above sea level, you might feel mild fatigue.

We suggest staying very well hydrated by sipping mineral water during the trip and avoiding heavy meals before driving.

The Andean sun mid-morning is radiant, and passing vehicles often stir up dust on dry dirt tracks. It is vital to apply high-factor sunscreen before putting on your helmet.

Continuous use of your sunglasses will protect your eyesight from direct particle impacts, allowing you to drive with visibility and comfort at all times.

This vehicle activity is not recommended for pregnant women, individuals with severe spinal or lumbar injuries, or travelers with uncontrolled heart or vision conditions.

If you have a specific medical condition, it is important to inform the agency in advance so we can recommend the safest options for your trip.

5 TOUR AND BOOKINGS

Your reservation guarantees you a complete adventure package including hotel pickup in Cusco, round-trip tourist transport, use of a Honda TRX 250 ATV, safety helmet and gloves, as well as fuel.

It also includes prior driving instruction, the continuous accompaniment of a professional bilingual guide, a first-aid kit, and a bottle of water for hydration.

The tour price does not include entry tickets to tourist sites (Tourist Ticket for Moray or community entry for the Maras Salt Mines), meal services (lunch or dinner), extra drinks, or tips.

We recommend bringing cash in Peruvian Soles of small denominations, as access fees are paid directly at the entry ticket offices.

No, being a dynamic half-day circuit, the program does not include lunch. Only one bottle of water is provided for the trip.

Upon returning to the city of Cusco (at 01:00 pm on the morning shift), transport will drop you off a few minutes from the Main Square, giving you perfect time to have lunch within the central area’s great gastronomic offerings.

Our policies for the ATV tour are quite flexible. You can request rescheduling or cancellations by notifying our reservations team with due commercial advance notice.

To know the specific timeframes and terms applicable to your travel date, we invite you to communicate directly with our advisors through our official channels.

Booking is extremely agile and simple. You can get in direct contact through our official WhatsApp channel, fill out the form on our website, or send us an email.

You will only need to indicate your preferred shift (morning or afternoon), the number of passengers, and the chosen date to issue official spot confirmations.

6 EXPERIENCES

You will feel an exciting sense of freedom driving along picturesque dirt tracks surrounded by barley, quinoa, and potato fields against the majestic backdrop of Andean mountains.

Furthermore, you will closely experience ancient agricultural science at the terraces of Moray and marvel at the breathtaking white panorama of thousands of salt pans in Maras.

Yes. Strategic stops are made along the route at privileged panoramic viewpoints so you can dismount from the ATV and take incredible photos with the mountains, ATVs, and terraces.

We suggest bringing your camera or cellphone secured inside a tightly closed backpack or fanny pack to protect it from dust while driving.

Yes, we offer the option to request double ATVs, where one participant drives as the pilot and the other person travels comfortably in the back seat as a passenger.

This option is highly requested by couples, friends, or families with teenage children who wish to share the same ATV and experience the journey together.

At the viewpoint of the Maras Salt Mines, the intense light reflected off the white salt creates fabulous visual contrast. We advise adjusting your camera brightness to avoid overexposed photos.

Poses against the vastness of the salt canyon backdrop will yield some of the most original and eye-catching postcards of your entire trip through the Cusco region.

It is one of the most popular tours because it breaks away from the traditional guided visit format, offering a perfect balance between energetic adventure, Inca culture, and unforgettable landscapes.

If you wish to experience the Sacred Valley in a lively, active, and adrenaline-filled way that perfectly complements your visit to Machu Picchu, this ATV journey is your best choice.
