CHUCUITO, is a small town in the province of Puno, located about 18 km from the city of Puno on the edge of the road Desaguadero and La Paz (Bolivia). It is located at 3 875 meters above sea level. Among its tourist attractions are: Inca Uyo, a rectangular construction with stone walls. At the time of the arrival of the Spaniards it was partially buried, under construction, the filling of earth allowed access to the top of the wall of the stones that were being carved, a few meters from the construction is an important group of stones in its carving phase. Recently, mushroom-shaped monoliths, which some interpret as phalluses, have been taken to the interior of the construction. In reality it is a ceremonial temple dating from pre-Hispanic times.
ARAMU MURO, is a historical-mythological site located near the town of Juli, not far from Lake Titicaca. The portal of Aramu Muru has the shape of a square of 7 meters on each side carved into the rock. So far, no serious archaeological study has been carried out that could reveal the date when the first settlers began to consider this place sacred. According to the legend, the priest Aramu Muru would have gone deep into the Earth passing through the Portal in order to hide the great golden disk of the Qoricancha. Today the portal is visited by believers who follow the theory of the Great White Brotherhood and is part of the Mystic Puno Tour.
THE ISLAND OF UROS, set of artificial islands made with reeds that grow in the vicinity of the lake, located north of the Bay of Puno. TAQUILE ISLAND, a natural island characterized by the kindness of its inhabitants and their typical costumes that have maintained their tradition over the centuries. For years this island was used as a prison, but today it is known because its inhabitants of the Quechua ethnic group, carefully preserves a traditional way of life. In an effort to remain faithful to their roots, the Taquileños hardly use electricity, have not built hotels, have banned cars and are extremely cautious about allowing foreigners to settle on their land.
SILLUSTANI, is an ancient cemetery where you can observe a series of impressive tombs belonging to the Qolla culture, which developed in the northern part of the lagoon, in the locality known as Hatunqolla. These tombs are located on the shores of the Umayo lagoon, in the city of Puno, the archaeological complex stands out for its gigantic “chullpas” (kind of stone towers), built by collas and Incas, to bury their dead.
THE ROUTE OF THE SUN is a magical journey from Puno to Cusco or vice versa. The important thing is that through the Ruta del Sol, different and beautiful destinations are known by bus as Raqchi or Pukara; places where the ancestral tradition that Peru lived before the discovery of America is still alive.
