Andahuaylillas is known as the “Sistine Chapel of the Andes” due to the beauty of its murals and paintings in the Chapel of San Pedro. This place dates back to the 17th century and is famous for its colonial architecture and artwork, including works in gold leaf and paintings from the Cusco School.
Raqchi is an archaeological complex that houses the Temple of Wiracocha, the supreme Inca deity. Here, you can explore ancient stone and adobe buildings, as well as colcas or Andean granaries. It’s a place full of Inca history and culture.
Paso de la Raya is the border between the cities of Cusco and Puno, located at an altitude of over 4335 meters above sea level. It offers stunning views of the Chimboya snow-capped mountain. It’s an ideal spot for taking photos and appreciating the natural beauty of the region.
The Lítico de Pucara Museum showcases the culture that developed in the region from 1600 BC to 400 AD. Here, you can see ceramics and sculptures representing zoomorphic figures, including the famous Hatunñaqac sculpture, which translates to the “supreme beheader.” It’s an opportunity to learn more about pre-Inca history.
We recommend bringing a small backpack with warm clothing, water, and snacks for the journey. Additionally, it’s important to wear comfortable trekking shoes, as some of the stops involve walks and explorations. It’s also advisable to bring sunscreen, sunglasses, and a hat, as the sun can be strong at high altitudes. Staying hydrated is essential due to the altitude.
