The trip of a lifetime! My best friend and I chose this tour to celebrate our 30th Birthdays - it was Amazing!!! We had a really nice time visiting Cusco, Machu Picchu and going to the Rainbow Mountain. The tour guides were really nice and we told us a lot about everything. We visited in November and for Machu Picchu this was amazing - it was misty in the morning and sunny by mid-morning, so we got to see it with all weather types. Highly recommend going at 6am and spending most of the day there - circuit 2 and 4 were great! We even hiked up one of the mountains. Carlos, Judy, and Wilson were great and really educated us about each site.

Great way to experience Peru The tour was a great way to experience Cusco, the sacred valley, Machu Picchu and the Vinicunca mountain. We only had 4 full days, and it was the right amount of time. I was there with my best friend celebrating our 30th, so we will always cherish this moment. The tour guides (Carlos, Judy, and Wilson) were very friendly and knowledgeable. They helped us get immersed to the history of the Incas, and made us feel comfortable throughout the trip. The accommodation provided as part of the package was very adequate, and the overall experience was great.

This death is symbolic, since with this act the condor returns to the nest, to the mountains, from where it is reborn towards a new cycle, a new life.

It was an animal respected by all those who lived in the Andes since times before the discovery of America, since it not only brought good and bad omens, but it was also responsible for the sun to rise every morning, because with its energy it was able to take the star and raise it over the mountains initiating the life cycle.

Frequently Asked Questions About the Colca Valley and Arequipa Tour

During the tour, we will reach altitudes ranging from 2,335 meters above sea level in Arequipa to 3,800 meters at the Cruz del Cóndor viewpoint.

In the Colca Canyon, you can spot a variety of animals, including condors, alpacas, vicuñas, vizcachas, foxes, pumas, eagles, hawks, and owls.

It is possible to experience altitude sickness (or mountain sickness) during the Colca Valley and Arequipa Tour, as the tour includes visits to places located at significantly higher altitudes than the city of Arequipa, which is at 2,335 meters above sea level.

To prevent altitude sickness, it is recommended to:

  • Ascend Gradually: Whenever possible, ascend to higher altitudes gradually to allow your body to acclimate to the change in oxygen pressure.
  • Hydration: Drinking plenty of water is essential to stay well-hydrated at high altitudes.
  • Rest: Proper rest and avoiding excessive physical exertion can help reduce symptoms.
  • Medications: In some cases, doctors may prescribe medications like acetazolamide to help prevent or alleviate altitude sickness symptoms.
  • Avoid Alcohol and Tobacco: Alcohol and tobacco can worsen altitude sickness symptoms, so they should be avoided during the ascent.
  • Awareness of Symptoms: Be aware of altitude sickness symptoms and seek medical attention if symptoms are severe or worsen.

In the Colca Canyon, Peru, you can savor authentic local cuisine, including fresh trout, guinea pig (cuy), potato-based dishes, soups, local products, homemade bread, fresh fruits, traditional beverages, desserts, and artisanal chocolate. This gastronomic experience reflects Andean culture and uses fresh ingredients in a stunning setting.

For a tour of the Colca Valley and Arequipa, bring appropriate clothing for variable weather (light clothing for the day and a jacket for the cold night), comfortable footwear, sunscreen, a backpack, a water bottle, a camera, travel documents, medications, cash, and sturdy bags.

In the Colca Valley, adventure enthusiasts will find rugged terrain with breathtaking landscapes offering exciting challenges. Here, you can engage in a variety of thrilling activities such as hiking, horseback riding, mountain biking, fishing, canoeing, llama trekking, flora and fauna observation, geyser exploration, waterfall visits, and exploration of prehistoric and archaeological areas. This place is a paradise for adventure, excitement, and adrenaline.

The most recommended months to do so are April and May since rainfall is less frequent, and the lushness of the landscapes becomes more appealing. However, it is possible to visit throughout the rest of the year, always considering local weather conditions.

The currency in use in Peru is the Nuevo Sol (S/). Although the US dollar is accepted in most hotels, shops, and restaurants, its value is based on the daily exchange rate, indicating how many Soles you get for each dollar. Some places also accept euros, but it is advised to make payments in the national currency, the Nuevo Sol.

If you are bringing a laptop or electronic devices during your trip, consider the information about electricity in Peru. The electrical voltage in Peru is 220 volts and operates at a frequency of 60 cycles per second, except in Arequipa, where the frequency is 50 cycles. However, most four and five-star hotels offer 110-volt outlets. Electrical outlets in Peru generally have two inputs. Therefore, it is recommended to carry an adapter for your electrical devices.
