The Ausangate Lakes Tour is one of the most impressive nature experiences in Cusco. This tour will take you through the Vilcanota Mountain Range to discover seven lakes with intense turquoise and emerald colors, surrounded by the imposing Ausangate and Qayangate snow-capped peaks. During the adventure, you will enjoy hiking, horseback riding, Andean fauna, and relaxing natural hot springs in Pacchanta.
04:00 AM – Hotel pickup and journey to Pacchanta
Our transportation will pick you up from your hotel in Cusco to start the journey toward the south of the region along the Cusco – Puno highway. During the trip, we will enjoy beautiful high-Andean landscapes until we reach the community of Pacchanta, located at the foot of the majestic Ausangate snow-capped peak.
07:00 AM – Breakfast and start of the adventure
Upon arriving in Pacchanta, we will enjoy a nutritious breakfast. Afterward, we will start our hike and horseback ride along the trails of the Ausangate Circuit, surrounded by impressive mountains, alpacas, and unique landscapes of the Vilcanota Mountain Range.
08:00 AM – Hike to the Seven Lakes
We will begin our journey along one of the most spectacular circuits in Cusco, visiting the famous Azulcocha, Otorongo, Pucacocha, Alqacocha, Q’omercocha, and other beautiful glacier lakes. During the trip, we will appreciate the Ausangate snow-capped peak, the Qayangate Mountain Range, and abundant Andean fauna such as alpacas, llamas, vizcachas, and, with a bit of luck, the majestic Andean condor.
11:30 AM – Tour of the Seven Lakes of Ausangate
During the hike, we will visit the spectacular Azulcocha, Otorongo Macho, Otorongo Hembra, Pucacocha, Alqacocha, Q’omercocha, and Patacocha lakes. Each one has unique hues that contrast with the glaciers and mountains of the Vilcanota Mountain Range, making this route one of the most impressive natural landscapes in Cusco.
01:00 PM – Andean fauna and panoramic views
As we move along the trails, we will have the opportunity to observe alpacas, llamas, vizcachas, and various high-Andean birds. On clear days, it is also possible to see the majestic Andean condor flying over the Ausangate, Mariposa, Jampa, Pucapunta, and other peaks of the Vilcanota Mountain Range.
02:30 PM – Relaxation in the Pacchanta hot springs
After the tour, we will return to Pacchanta to enjoy a well-deserved rest in its famous natural hot springs, surrounded by a spectacular mountain landscape. It is the perfect time to relax your muscles after the hike (entrance is optional).
03:30 PM – Buffet lunch
Once the experience is over, we will enjoy a delicious lunch prepared with local products before starting our return journey to the city of Cusco.
07:00 PM – Return to Cusco
After an unforgettable day touring the Ausangate lakes, we will head back to Cusco, where we will conclude the service by dropping you off near the Plaza de Armas or at your hotel, according to prior coordination.

High mountain hike of approximately 5 hours (4,600 – 4,800 m / 15,091 – 15,748 ft).
The best season to take this tour is between May and October, during the dry season. In these months, rains are scarce, the trails are in better condition, and it is possible to enjoy clear views of the Ausangate snow-capped peak and the lakes.
It is not strictly necessary, but good physical condition is recommended. The hike takes place above 4,600 meters (15,091 ft), so it is important to have previously acclimated in Cusco for at least one or two days.
