With the Palcoyo Colored Mountain Tour or “Palcoyo & Valley of Stones”, you can enjoy a wide range of colors. Vinincunca and Palcoyo provide strikingly similar views, but there is a difference in hiking time. It is located about 3 hours south of the city of Cusco, near the Cordillera Vilcanota, in a grouping of whimsical mountains of unique colors that never ceases to attract the attention of travelers and tourists around the world.
To get to Palcoyo you only need 1h 30 min. round trip through a relatively flat stretch while Vinincunca is a 4 hour round trip trek with a considerable slope. Both excursions take place at 5,000 masl, so the risks of puna are high in any of them. You should know that vehicular access to Palcoyo is much more complicated than to Vinincunca. The roads are not in good condition, but if what you want is a relaxed and short hike through colorful mountains, to enjoy that range of vivid colors and clean air … then Palcoyo is the option. The only recommendation is to go to this route in the dry season (May – October). But you can also go in the rainy season which is a different experience.
The Palcoyo tour is starting to be one of the most visited destinations in Peru apart from the Machu Picchu tour, which many visitors do, so we recommend it 100%.

The risk of altitude sickness (also known as puna or soroche) is high due to the altitude at which the tour takes place. It is suggested to spend at least 1 or 2 days in Cusco (which is at 3,399 masl) to acclimatise before going to Palcoyo.
The best time to visit Palcoyo is during the dry season, which runs from May to October. However, it is also possible to tour during the rainy season, although the experience will be different.
