DESCRIPTION

Description Cusco Potato Route Tour

With the “Cusco Potato Route Tour”, you will be able to visit a part of the Sacred Valley of the Incas in an experiential tourism, because the Potato Route is more than a one-day visit, which does not cross simple natural and cultural landscapes but it is part of an experience.

THE POTATO is undoubtedly one of the most versatile and popular vegetables thanks to the first explorers, who found it for the first time in the high mountains of the Peruvian Andes. The potato is an edible tuber native to the mountainous regions of the Andes in South America, where the plant has been cultivated for more than 10,000 years, since the time of the Inca Empire. Today, the potato is an international staple food, occupying no less than the position of the fourth most widely distributed food crop in the world, after corn, wheat and rice.

The potato is the third most important food crop in the world, due to its great nutritional value, diverse medicinal properties and multiple presentations. A new plant can be planted from a piece of potato called seed and this new plant can produce 5 to 20 new tubers, which will be genetically identical to the mother seed plant.

Our country is considered the main potato producer in Latin America and is ranked 11th in the world, only behind the United States. Approximately 1.4 million people around the world consume potatoes as a staple food and the annual average is 85 kilograms per person.

This tour will allow us to recognize and enjoy the potato production process, taste it through the kitchen and understand it within historical and cultural expressions and will take place in a rural environment with the participation of organized local populations, for the benefit of the community. A delicious trip which will take us to enjoy the different stews in their best versions where the protagonist will be the potato. In addition, we will visit beautiful lagoons like Kinsagocha, archaeological ruins like those of Pucara Pantilliclla, fields of cultivation or crops, workshops of handmade or medicinal plants. Here they also produce soaps, shampoos (own aromatic herbs) and textiles; among them are distinguished those of Chahuatire.
