    FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

The best time to take the “Waqrapukara Trek Cusco Tour” is during the dry season in the Cusco region, which generally covers the months from May to September. Here are a few reasons why this period is the best choice:

    • Stable Weather: During the dry season, the weather in Cusco and its surroundings is more predictable and stable. There is less chance of rain and plenty of sunny days, making outdoor activities like the hike to Waqrapukara much more enjoyable.
    • Good Hiking Conditions: The lack of rain at this time means that the paths and trails will be in better condition. Trails will be less muddy and slippery, making the hike easier.
    • Visibility: The dry season tends to offer better visibility of the landscapes and the Waqrapukara archaeological site. Clear skies allow you to appreciate the panoramic views with greater clarity.

The name “Waqrapukara” comes from Quechua, the language spoken in the Andean region of Peru. In Quechua, “Waqra” means “horn” and “Pukara” translates as “fortress”. Therefore, “Waqrapukara” roughly translates to “horn-shaped fortress”.

However, it is important to note that in some local communities, Waqrapukara is also known as “Llamapukara”, as they believe the “horns” are actually the ears of a llama, which is an important animal in Andean culture. Consequently, this archaeological site is known by different names in the region.

To ensure a comfortable and safe experience on the “Waqrapukara Trek Cusco Tour”, it is important to bring the proper gear and essentials. Here is a list of what you should bring:

    • Hiking Backpack: A comfortable and durable backpack to carry your essential belongings during the hike.
    • Layered Clothing: Since the weather at high altitudes can vary, it is recommended to wear layered clothing that allows you to adapt to the conditions. Include a waterproof and windproof jacket.
    • Hiking Boots: A sturdy and comfortable pair of hiking boots with good traction is essential for walking on varied terrain.
    • Hat or Cap: A hat or cap to protect you from the sun and keep your head cool.
    • Sunscreen: High-mountain sun can be very strong, so bring sunscreen to protect your skin.
    • Insect Repellent: Depending on the season and location, it can be useful to carry insect repellent to avoid bites.
    • Water: Bring a water bottle and make sure to stay well-hydrated during the hike.
    • Energy Snacks: Bring energy snacks like nuts, granola bars, and dried fruits to maintain your energy during the trek.
    • Documents and Cash: Bring a copy of your ID documents, insurance cards, and some cash in a waterproof bag.
